Colour Sensory Poems on Paint Chips!

During one of my placements I completed a poetry unit with this cool and colourful project. In order to reinforce what they learned about sensory imagery, metaphor, simile and personification, the students completed paint chip poems.

  1. I'm a certified brain injury specialist (CBIS) and speech-language pathologist (SLP). I think your idea is brilliant. I found it a couple years ago online and have used it to help both children and adults compose poems who never thought they could. Even children with brain injuries were able to write spectacular poems if I scaffolded with a template and did the actual writing as they dictated. This week I'm using it again with two adult clients who are recovering language skills after stroke. Thank you so much for this idea, it has become one of my very favorite therapy activities.
